A steep hillside entry garden creates elegant access to this Sausalito residence.  The materials were selected to brighten it's shady aspect.  The light stucco retaining walls and Napa Cast Stone treads and capstones add reflective light to the garden and seemingly enlarge the narrow space while providing terraces for planting.  The retaining wall becomes a seat wall at the entry level, a convenient place to sit or rest objects before ascending the stairs.

The flax plant near the front door has a sculptural effect, which both grounds and and uplifts the space.  The metal handrails are refined and open to allow natural light into the entry.

A series of levels define the garden.   The open railings allow light and visual connection of the whole space.
